Delegation in Commemoration of the 25th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of the 4 US Churchwomen
From Nov. 30 - Dec. 6, 2005, 115 delegates representing religious orders, sistering communities, and SHARE advocacy partners from all over the United States gathered in El Salvador to plant a seed of hope in honor of the lives of the four U.S. Churchwomen who were martyred here 25 years ago. During their pilgrimage, the delegates commemorated the churchwomen and all the martyrs of El Salvador by visiting the Memorial Wall to the civilian victims of the war, the home and martyrdom site of Archbishop Oscar Romero, and the site where the churchwomen were buried. The delegates also showed their solidarity with the continuing struggle for dignity by visiting communities affected by the construction of the San Salvador Beltway and local development projects in SHARE's new target zone, and by voicing support for the Human Rights Ombudswoman, Beatrice de Carrillo in a press conference. This pilgrimage honored the lives of the churchwomen and showed the fruits of their labor for justice.
