Human Rights Abuses and Impunity

Human Rights abuses were so atrocious during the Civil War that it brought international attention to El Salvador. Soon after the Civil War ended, an Amnesty Law was signed to protect perpetrators of human rights abuses committed during the Civil War from being prosecuted. This has created a culture of impunity in El Salvador where few cases, past or present, are ever brought to justice.
