Conversations with Salvadoran Scholarship Students
Every year, with the support of our donors, SHARE works together with CRIPDES San Vicente to send twenty-six students through high school. These students all come from rural communities in the municipality of Tecoluca and many would not have had the chance to go to high school had they not been offered the scholarship. Last month, I had the opportunity to visit four of those students in their homes and ask them what it was like to be a high school student in rural El Salvador. Celia, Erika, Armando and Silvino all opened themselves up to my questions as I tried to paint a clearer picture of what life is like for our scholarship students. We talked about the importance of education for youth in their communities, the difficulties they faced, what they thought of the new government, their favorite subjects and what they wanted to be when they grew up. I put together those four interviews into a quick video that does a good overview of my time with them. I would also like to share the completed interviews from my meetings with Celia, Silvino and Armando. Please take a moment to look over the video and the interviews to get a closer glimpse at what life is like for a rural Salvadoran student.
