DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR
Full-time position


The SHARE Foundation: Building a New El Salvador Today, a non-profit organization, supports grassroots communities in El Salvador in constructing sustainable solutions to poverty, underdevelopment and social injustice. SHARE has worked for 20 years to help build economic justice and democracy in El Salvador by empowering civil society, especially women, and strengthening sustainable development alternatives at the local and national levels.

2005 marks the 25th Anniversary of Archbishop Romero and the 4 US churchwomen. For this historic anniversary, SHARE is embarking on a special fundraising campaign to honor these martyrs and the 75,000 civilian victims of the conflict. The campaign will culminate in 2006 when SHARE celebrates 25 years of solidarity with El Salvador.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads development staff (grant writer, development associate and interns) in elaborating and evaluating fundraising themes, strategies and annual plans for major donors, direct mail and phonebank programs.
  • Coordinates with grant writer in developing themes and strategies for foundations and congregations.
  • Responsible for tracking, cultivating, renewing and upgrading current major donors through diversified strategies of written correspondence, phone calls, personal visits, delegations to El Salvador, stateside tours and donor events.
  • Responsible for prospecting potential new donors through similar strategies.
  • Develops capacity of Board members and other SHARE volunteers to participate actively in fundraising.
  • Encourages donors to participate in all of SHARE’s programs.
  • Supervises development associate, grantwriter and interns in achieving fundraising goals.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong first-hand knowledge of political, social and economic conditions in El Salvador.
  • Demonstrated success in raising funds from individual donors and/or other funders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English, preferred.
  • Proven supervision experience.
