About SHARE: The SHARE Foundation: Building a New El Salvador Today, a non-profit organization, supports grassroots communities in El Salvador in constructing sustainable solutions to poverty, underdevelopment and social injustice. SHARE has worked for over 25 years to help build economic justice and democracy in El Salvador through grants, technical assistance and advocacy accompaniment. SHARE is launching a new 5 -year strategic plan, which will set direction of the institution for another 25 years of solidarity.
Development Director
Full Time position
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops an overall fundraising strategy and annual fundraising goals, plans and evaluations.
- Actively expands and co-manages with the Executive Director a portfolio of major donors and major donor prospects, utilizing the support of board members, staff and volunteers.
- Responsible for tracking, cultivating, renewing and upgrading current and prospective major donors through diversified strategies of written correspondence, phone calls, personal visits, delegations to El Salvador, stateside tours and donor events.
- Organizes and implements donor giving circles.
- Serves as lead staff to spearhead a Major Gifts Committee.
- Develops capacity of Board members, staff and other SHARE volunteers to perform direct solicitations for major gifts.
- Plans and executes fundraising campaigns, special events and other fundraising activities.
- Directs and implements all website strategy as it relates to fundraising.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 5 years experience in nonprofit fundraising.
- Demonstrated ability to meet revenue goals.
- Experience creating and improving development office systems.
- Knowledge of political, social and economic conditions in El Salvador/Central America.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with computer networks, Microsoft Office applications and fundraising software.
- Ability to travel.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English, preferred.

U.S. Grassroots Coordinator
Full-Time Position
The U.S. Grassroots Coordinator position is based in the Washington, DC SHARE office.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Facilitate the work and functioning of SHARE by supporting the planning and evaluating SHARE’s grassroots work.
- Outreach to and communication with the U.S. grassroots base of SHARE, including the SHARE volunteer network of promoters.
- Recruit new U.S. partners for SHARE’s grassroots counterparts, including churches, theological schools and seminaries, colleges and high schools.
- Fundraise with the U.S. grassroots base for projects and annual dues.
- Coordinate SHARE events to raise funds, educate, and support work on the local level.
- In conjunction with Policy Director:
- Work with interns to create grassroots friendly educational materials.
- Produce a bi-weekly e-newsletter.
- Develop and sustain collaborative relationships with other solidarity and advocacy groups in Washington, DC and throughout the U.S.
- Coordinate and lead tours of Salvadorans to the United States and delegations in El Salvador.
- Assist in hiring and mentoring interns for the Washington D.C. office.
- Maintain SHARE’s webpage and list serve.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated commitment to human rights and social justice in Latin America.
- Bilingual Spanish-English (both written and spoken).
- Experience in community organizing.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- High level of initiative, problem solver and team player.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Experience in editing and webpage design.
- Willingness to travel 4 – 8 weeks per year.
- Fundraising experience a plus.

GRASSROOTS EDUCATION AND ADVOCACY INTERN
Role of Interns:
1. Research human rights and development issue/s affecting SHARE partners in El Salvador, i.e., Central American Free Trade Agreement, Plan Puebla Panama, sociopolitical violence, etc.
2. Attend and report on NGO coalition and community based meetings as a SHARE representative.
3. Participate in the implementation of SHARE's grassroots educational campaign by researching and writing education and advocacy alerts, doing presentations, etc.
4. Support SHARE’s advocacy efforts directed at Congress, U.S. government agencies and multi-lateral financial institutions.
5. Assist with administrative and logistical tasks for advocacy and grassroots projects.
Though not a pre-requisite, the following background and skills would be helpful:
- Work in Latin America (course work or volunteer work)
- Activism in human rights, peace and justice causes
- Excellent organizational, communication and writing skills
- Knowledge of Spanish (ability to translate is particularly helpful)
- Editing and website design
- Knowledge of organizing with faith communities
All of our Washington, DC internships are unpaid. During the fall and spring, interns are expected to work at least 16 hours each week. During the summer, they work 24 hours each week. Approximately 30% of the internship is administrative in nature. The remainder of an intern's time is spent working with staff on specific projects. A staff member and the intern will design a project based on SHARE’s needs and the intern’s interests.
