September 15, 2004

Dear Sustainers,

In 2005 we commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the deaths of Salvadoran Archbishop Oscar Arnulfo Romero and the four U.S. Churchwomen -- Ita Ford, M.M., Maura Clarke, M.M., Dorothy Kazel, O.S.U. and Jean Donovan. We have the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of the martyrs and accompany those who still struggle for peace and justice in El Salvador. Our solidarity with "el pueblo de El Salvador" continues to challenge and call us to be on pilgrimage and to witness to the struggle for human dignity, truth, justice and peace in the world.

Our presence in El Salvador to honor the martyrs will be an especially strong witness and accompaniment for Salvadorans, most of whom were born after the tragic events of 1980. To this end, you are invited to join SHARE Foundation: Building a New El Salvador Today on delegations to honor Romero, March 28 – April 4, 2005 or the U.S. and the U.S. Churchwomen, November 30 – December 6, 2005.

The delegation will include participation in the 25th anniversary commemorative events, as well as provide an opportunity to learn about the work of the poorest sectors to organize people-centered alternatives amidst corporate globalization. The trips will include visits to the countryside to accompany communities and witness the grassroots local development and women’s empowerment projects that SHARE is supporting. The week will focus on honoring the martyrs, connecting with the Salvadoran people and learning about the on-going struggles for peace and justice in El Salvador.

Many will want to honor the lives and work of these great disciples but will be unable to travel to El Salvador. They will be invited to organize and be part of local and regional celebrations. Finally, this special anniversary presents an opportunity to donate to SHARE’s Romero and Churchwomen Legacy Fund that will support on-going women’s empowerment and advocacy projects in El Salvador. SHARE's goal is to raise $500,000 over the next two years, culminating in the 25th Anniversary of SHARE Foundation in November 2006. Your donation will help SHARE to realize the prophecy of Romero when he said, "We water seeds already planted knowing that they will hold future promise. We lay foundations that will need further development. We provide yeast that produces effects beyond our capabilities.”

Join with the many Salvadorans who gather each year on the anniversaries of the fallen to remember and rededicate their lives to the cause of justice. The lives of Archbishop Romero and the four U.S. Churchwomen inspire us and their spirits live on in the hearts of the Salvadoran people. To witness this faithfulness is a life enriching and life transforming experience.

Please complete the enclosed form to indicate interest in participation in the 25th Anniversary observance. For inquiries contact Angela Urata, email: angela@share-elsalvador.org, 415-239-2595.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Teresa Cruz Miranda
