The DC Salvadoran Community and the Stop CAFTA Coalition Protest CAFTA implementation and urge the Salvadoran Government to support the Peace Accords in their 14th Anniversary
Members of the local Washington, DC Salvadoran community, along with their US allies, gathered by the Salvadoran consulate on January 17, 2006 to protest the implementation of CAFTA and commemorate the 14th anniversary of the Peace Accords.
Participants pledged to continue their solidarity with the people of El Salvador as CAFTA enters into force in the coming months. They expressed their concerns about the deterioration of human rights, scarcity of employment, and an increase in immigration since the signing of the 1992 Peace Accords.

The Peace Accords held out the promise of peace, justice and development in El Salvador. Yet CAFTA promises the deterioration of the rural sector and the Salvadoran economy. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to the values of the Peace Accords side by side. The protest was organized by the local Salvadoran community and the Stop CAFTA Coalition, in which SHARE participates.
