Salvadorans Speak Out on Immigration Policy
Esteemed SHARE Team,
In this way we would like to communicate that in our community 11 people have immigrated to the United States. There are many people who dream of going to look for more wellbeing for their family members and to help their community as well as people with few resources.
With this we go on to the following: for our community immigration has meant a loss of jobs and higher prices for the basic basket of goods which we consume daily. We suggest that there be more jobs in the United States because there are people from all professions that will seek them. They will go, they will not forget their reason for taking the jobs, and they will not become gang members. They will do these jobs simply to be immigrants, seeking more wellbeing.

Por medio de la presente les comunicamos que en nuestra comunidad han emigrado un total de 11 personas hacia los Estados Unidos. Hay ciertas personas que anhelan en irse a buscar un bienestar major para sus familiars y para ayudar a su comunidad y a personas de escasos recursos.
Con esto paso a lo siguiente: Para nuestra comunidad la emigracion ha significado una falta de empleo y los altos precios de la canasta basica que se consume diariamente. Nosotros sugerimos que hayan mas empleos en los Estados Unidos por que hay personas que de los trabajos los van a buscar. Sin deconocer el motivo. Sin ser Marrero. Solo por ser un emigrante buscando un bienestar mejor.

Brothers and sisters from the SHARE Foundation, we send cordial greetings as the community council in the name of the Community of Guarjila, hoping that God pours out His blessings on the work that you do to benefit the communities.
We want to tell you that we received your letter dated June 29 in which you asked us some questions. In response, we are sending you the following answers.
1. How many members of your community have left for the United States?
- Of all the families in the community, 60% have one or two members living in the United States.
2. Who are the ones who leave?
-Those that emigrate to the United States are primarily young people between the ages of 15 and 30, of which 60% are males and 40% are females.
3. To which cities in the United States are they going?
-The cities that they go to most are New York, Nebraska, Virginia, and Washington.
4. Why are they leaving?
-The young people leave for a lack of work and to seek better living conditions.
5. When they leave, do they continue communicating with the community? What kinds of stories do they tell?
-Approximately sixty people emigrate per year, and they stay in communication only with their families. They tell stories about the dangers that they go through to reach the United States; they are mistreated by Coyotes, and it is difficult to find work.
6. What impact has migration had on your community?
-It has been disadvantageous because some families leave the organization when they begin to receive remittances, but it has been advantageous because some families are experiencing better living conditions due to the remittances.
7. What does your community suggest be done to decrease levels of emigration? (In the community, at the national level, international policy, etc.) What do you ask as a community from your sistering partners in order to make good immigration policies a reality?
-We ask them to take part in activities that develop in protest of the deportation of immigrants.
-We want them to take actions protesting the policies of the Salvadoran government.
-Improve communication between the community and its sistering partners.
Hermanos/as de la Fundación SHARE, reciban un cordial saludo de la Directiva Comunal en nombre de la Comunidad de Guarjila esperando que Dios derrame bendiciones en el trabajo que realizan en beneficio de las comunidades.
Contarles que recibimos su carta con fecha del 29 de junio donde nos hacen algunas preguntas, a continuación les enviamos las respuestas.
- ¿Cuántos miembros de su comunidad han salido para Estados Unidos?
- Del 100% de las familias de la comunidad el 60% tienen de uno a dos miembros en los Estados Unidos.
- Los que emigran a Estados Unidos en su mayoría son jóvenes entre las edades de 15 a 30 años, un 60% son hombres y un 40% son mujeres.
3. ¿A cuáles ciudades van en Estados Unidos?
- A las ciudades que más emigran son New Cork, Nevraska, Virginia y Washington.
- Los jóvenes se van por falta de trabajo y para buscar mejores condiciones de vida.
5. ¿Cuándo salen, siguen comunicándose con la comunidad? ¿Cómo son las historias que cuentan?
- En el año emigran un aproximado de sesenta personas y tiene comunicación solo con los familiares. Las historias que cuentan son los peligros que pasan para poder llegar a Estados Unidos, son maltratados por coyotes y les cuesta encontrar trabajo.
- ¿Qué ha significado la migración para su comunidad?
- Nos ha causado desventaja porque algunas familias les mandan remesas y se olvidan de la organización y la ventaja que algunas familias están en mejores condiciones con las remesas.
- ¿Qué surgieren como comunidad para bajar los niveles de inmigración? ¿Como serán las políticas o cambios de realidad que detendrían los altos niveles de migración? ¿Qué piden como comunidad de su hermanamiento para que dichas políticas sean realidad?
- Les pedimos que se incorporen a las actividades que se desarrollan en protesta por el despido de los inmigrantes.
- Queremos que hagan acciones de protesta en contra de las políticas del gobierno salvadoreño
- Mejorar la comunicación entre la comunidad y los hermanamientos.

Reciban un saludo carinoso y fraternal de parte de la Associacion de Desarrollo Comunal de el Canton Copalechan, Municipio de Tenancingo, Departamento de Cuscatlan. Esperando que se encuentren bien de salud y logrando exitos en la labor, que a diario realizan en apoyo de la comunidades mas necesitadas.
El motivo de escribirles esta carta es para tratar de contestarles la carta que hemos recibido en nuestra comunidad donde nos preguntan que opinamos sobre la imigracion. Contestamos que 32 personas han imigrado de nuestra comunidad hacia los Estados Unidos. Son personas de 20-35 anos de ambos sexos y son jefes de hogar. Van a cualquier ciudad dondes se les haga lo mas facil en llegar. Ban porque hay falta de empleos y si hayan en maquilas les pagan muy pocos y las maltratan.

The motive of writing to you was to answer the letter that we received asking us what our opinion was about immigration. We answer that 32 people have immigrated from our community to the United States. They are people between 20-35 years from both sexes and they are heads of their households. They go to whichever city makes it the easiest for them to arrive. They go because there are not enough jobs, and if there are jobs in sweatshops they are paid very poorly and are mistreated.
We wanted to share this information with you, our brothers and sisters from the United States.
