The Salvadoran and Interfaith communities in the United States stand in solidarity with Cardinal Gregorio Rosa Chávez, and firmly reject recent attempts to impugn his reputation in public statements and on social media in response to the Cardinal’s call for greater transparency and accountability by Salvadoran President Bukele as El Salvador confronts the crisis of the COVID-19.

Gracias from SHARE for your solidarity with Cardinal Rosa Chavez of El Salvador

Dear Friends,

We have no words to express our gratitude for your solidarity with Cardinal Rosa Chavez of El Salvador as he faces a “perverse campaign” of threats from the government of President Bukele for demanding transparency during the Covid-19 crisis.  SHARE staff presented Cardinal Rosa Chavez our open letter of support, signed by many of you (over 1,600) plus hundreds of additional messages of support.

He was surprised and deeply moved. He shared:  “I am very happy and full of emotions.  I thank you for this incredible detail;  we are not alone; we are one family.”  We thank each and every one of you for your solidarity with the  Cardinal  and the people of El Salvador.

Together with Cardinal Rosa, in this moment of the COVID-19 crisis, we invite you to continue supporting the SHARE Foundation. SHARE  has committed to raise funds to support mitigation efforts, especially for doctors and medical personnel who are doing their best despite the chronic lack of PPE. (El Salvador suffers the highest rate of medical personnel mortality in the region, with 74 deaths including 26 doctors).
