Tutela Legal Doctora Maria Julia Hernandez

SHARE supports Tutela Legal and Pro Memoria in their search for truth, justice and reparations for the victims of violations of human rights during the war.

Tutela Legal Doctora Maria Julia Hernandez works for truth, justice, and reparations around human rights violations in El Salvador. Their current projects include:
  • Advocating for release of the victims of human rights violations files locked by the Archbishop of San Salvador. On September 30, 2013 the Archbishop of San Salvador abruptly closed the legal aid office and locked the files of 80% of the victims of the war. The relatives of the victims consider the files to be a treasure because in many cases they are the only proof of their relatives’ disappearances or assassinations.
  • Seeking justice for the victims of massacres. Tutela Legal Doctora Maria Julia Hernandez is representing the victims of the Massacres of El Mozote, El Carrizal, El Rio Sumpul, La Quesera and others. They have accompanied the victims and relatives of the victims since the 1980s with research and case presentation at the national and international level.
  • Obtaining justice for the murder of Archbishop Oscar Romero. Tutela Legal Doctora Maria Julia Hernandez is working on the reactivation, at the national and international level, of the case of the assassination of Archbishop Oscar Arnulfo Romero, Archbishop of San Salvador, who was murdered by a death squad on March 24, 1980.
