THE BERTA DELEGATION TO HONDURAS
FEB 27 TO MARCH 9TH, 2026.
Dear Friends,
We at the SHARE Foundation are excited to let you know that we have been invited by COPINH and Radio Progreso to bring a delegation to Honduras for the 10th anniversary commemoration of the assassination of Berta Caceres, the great environmentalist and human rights defender.
We will join with COPINH, the organization of the Lenca indigenous people, and hundreds of others in 2 days of commemorative activities near La Esperanza, where Berta lived.
In the spirit of Berta, along with that of the other recent Honduran martyrs, notably Juan Lopez, we will also travel to the Bajo Aguan region of the country to accompany the communities there in their struggle to defend the land and the water from mining and corporate agribusiness ventures.
In addition, we will be in Honduras for International Women’s Day and will be hosted by El Foro de Mujeres (Women’s Forum) in San Pedro Sula. We are invited to join in celebrating their work to uplift the dignity of women in their communities and to resist and bring an end to rampant violence against women.
We will meet with Garifuna communities enduring persecution and repression, as well as with refugees deported from the U.S. and the advocates who receive them in Honduras.
We hope that you will be inspired to join us for this historic delegation that links the struggles in the U.S., Honduras and the region. We also hope that you will help to spread the word to others that you think might be moved by the lives and deaths of these modern martyrs for justice, Berta Cáceres and Juan Lopez. Please invite friends and colleagues to consider going to Honduras with a group of like-minded pilgrims to learn deeply about their lives and to accompany their communities in their continuing struggles.
Our dates are February 27-March 9, 2026
