- Highlights include:
- Pilgrimage to the site where our sisters were martyred. Thanks to SHARE’s advocacy, it is now a National Historic Monument.
- Visit to:
- The small chapel where Saint Romero was assassinated.
- The communities where Ita, Maura, Dorothy, and Jean ministered.
- Journey by bus to Honduras to:
- Participate in an Encuentro (Gathering) of Indigenous Communities of Central and South America, and a Via Crucis (Way of the Cross) with relatives of the refugees in the U.S.
- Learn about the root causes of migration to the U.S. and the strategies local communities are using to resist the policies, supported by the successive U.S. governments, that are driving the violence and have created the wide divide between rich and poor.
- ORGANIZE A LOCAL EVENT COMMEMORATING THE FOUR CHURCHWOMEN.
- SUPPORT SHARE. For 39 years, SHARE has been accompanying the people of El Salvador while they fight for their rights to truth, justice, sovereignty, and sustainability as did Ita, Maura, Dorothy, and Jean. SHARE continues to develop youth and women leaders, push for anti-violence legislation, provide tools for communities to lift themselves out of poverty, invest in women’s education, and support refugees in the U.S. While in Honduras, we have responded to the urgent call for solidarity and accompaniment of the people of martyred indigenous leader Berta Caceres as they defend themselves, the river, and the forest. Help SHARE keep alive the spirit of the four U.S. churchwomen by supporting our work through a gift to SHARE’s General Fund or The Ita, Maura, Dorothy and Jean Legacy Fund.
We invite you to help spread the word to young and old, women and men, elected officials, artists, and religious leaders and invite them to join in the celebration.

Frequently Asked Questions
10. Are there concerns about safety? Honduras and El Salvador are among the most violent countries in the region. Our itinerary is developed in close collaboration with women religious working in El Salvador and Honduras who are aware of the risks and mindful to reduce them in every possible way. We will be lodged in secure locations and nighttime travel by the delegation will be limited as much as possible. Traveling in groups also provides an additional degree of safety and delegation members always need to be accompanied be another delegate. We will not participate in demonstrations or knowingly enter situations that would put us at risk. Nevertheless, it is important to know that El Salvador and Honduras have high levels of crime, gang activity, and state-sanctioned repression. This is part of the daily reality of people’s lives and contributes heavily to the continuous flow of people who can no longer live safely at home and who must seek asylum elsewhere, including in the United States. This delegation is one of accompaniment, and we encourage participants to consider both the risks and the rewards of this form of activism.
SHARE and LCWR have sponsored these delegations for several decades following very strict security measures and, thanks to God and our martyrs, we have had zero incidents. The U.S. Department of State downgraded the travel alert for El Salvador from Level 3, “reconsider travel”, to Level 2, “exercise increased caution.
