“We need to organize delegations to come and accompany us. We need your economic support to continue denouncing the situation. We can only sustain ourselves with the contribution of solidarity. This solidarity comes from people that believe in us and are our friends and allies.”
– Father Melo, SJ - Honduras |
Dear friends of the people of Honduras,
Honduras is exploding. The people are taking to the streets to protest the Honduran government’s imposition of Martial Law in the effort to steal the recent presidential election. Fourteen people have been killed, many more injured, disappeared and in jail. |
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:5 |
Yet, entire communities from Tegucigalpa to San Pedro Sula to Santa Rosa de Copan are defying the state of siege and suspension of constitutional rights. The people of Berta are marching in the streets, mobilizing young and old, to demand their voices be heard and their rights respected.
Their demand: an end to the violence and corruption of the electoral process. Even some of the elite police units have refused to repress the people and are supporting the call for fair and just elections.
We are writing you on behalf of Father Melo, the Jesuit priest who has accompanied the Honduran people for more than 20 years, who has appealed to the SHARE Foundation for immediate emergency help. "We need you to organize delegations that come to accompany us, to witness what is happening here and to share it with the world."
The Hondurans need our material aid to care for those who have been injured and to provide supplies and support to the ongoing mobilizations across the country. Father Melo is asking for "critical financial support to continue transmitting as a radio, and to cover the emergency."
100% of your tax deductible donation will be sent immediately to Father Melo’s non profit Radio Progreso in Honduras to sustain them in this critical moment.
Please be as generous as you can be.
Take a Stand For Hondurans Today
This counts as one of the moments in history when our solidarity makes the difference between life and death.
Thank you! Together, we are light in the dark!
