Honduras Fundraising Campaign 2025
Safety for Those Who Stay

Picture
Dear Friend,

The women in Honduras are in desperate need of a safe haven. We are asking for your support to create a safe home base for Honduran women facing dire needs.  We are writing to ask for your help with a fundraising campaign we are calling Safety for Those Who Stay. There is some urgency to this request because women in Honduras are in danger, facing extremely high levels of domestic violence and femicide as well as overall food insecurity for their families.  Safety for Those Who Stay is a response to the goal of The Women’s Forum (Foro de Mujeres) to build a safe place for women and children to thrive with dignity.

To combat this The Women’s Forum (Foro de Mujeres) in Honduras was formed to combat the dangers experienced by the Honduran women. It is a consortium of 16 organizations to promote human rights, leadership development, education and skills training with girls and women. The Honduran Sisters of Mercy are a founding member of the Forum and the current leadership is being carried out by Lay Associates of the Sisters.

The Forum is seeking funds to purchase and remodel a building to serve as a central home base for vulnerable women and women’s organizations from various regions of the country. The center would enable greater capacity to carry out the Forum’s ongoing and expanding work, including short term living space, the delivery of services to accompany survivors of violence with legal and psychological support, and programs to promote civic participation and advocacy.

The SHARE Foundation has been working with the Women’s Forum for ten years, and is committed to help raise the funds. Together with Lay Associates and others associated with the Sisters of Mercy in the US, it is our goal to make this dream possible.

We have recently received an initial grant for $200,000 and the Honduran Lay Associates have found the building that they want to purchase. The cost of the building is just under $300,000. Our goal for this campaign is to raise the remaining funds so that the purchase can be completed.

Can you help us? Are you able to donate at this time? We need your support in any way possible.  If you know of people who have supported Mercy fundraisers in the past, please reach out to them.  Consider sharing our story with your family, and friends.  We are close to making the Safety for Those Who Stay center a reality.   Pray with us to meet our goal! Do you have interest in joining us in this effort? If not, do you know of others who might be interested to help us,  or who may have lived in Honduras for a time? Or do you know of people who have supported Mercy fundraisers and might be inspired to help build the center? in the past and might have an interest in this one?

Sincerely and thank you for your prayerful consideration,

About the logo for the Safety for Those Who Stay campaign.

Honduras is a beautiful country and fruit trees are often surrounded by a halo of butterflies attracted by the fruit. The butterfly is a center piece of the Forum’s logo. This partnership of organizations is raising funds to protect people, especially women and children, who seek to remain in safety in their home country rather than migrating.
