Justice for Juan López and Territorial Defense of the Carlos Escaleras National Park
Dear Friends of the people of Honduras,
We are writing today to let you know that we continue to accompany the great struggle for justice for the people of Bajo Aguan region of Honduras, most particularly the struggle to stop the mining in the National Park Carlos Escaleras near Guapinol, and to seek accountability and justice for Juan Lopez and so many others who have given their lives in this struggle to defend the water.
The Committee of Tocoa is bringing to our solidarity circles (all of us!) a request for help funding their valiant struggle against the powerful interests of the corporate and governmental elites in Honduras; their general objective is to strengthen the struggle for the protection of the Carlos Escaleras National Park and the demand for justice for murdered defenders, through social mobilization, legal support, and political advocacy.
SHARE will support the Comite’s social mobilization to identify and expose the masterminds behind crimes committed against human rights defenders; as well as to support them in maintain the legal strategy aimed at the permanent cancellation of the pending components of the mega-project (the Pelletizing Plant and the Thermoelectric Plant).
SHARE is proud to have contributed to purchase the house for the offices of the Women Forum to serve their 16 women member organizations defending women’s rights.
This year we continue the partnership with the Jesuit sponsored ERIC and the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation on our 3rd year planting fruit trees in schools, churches and communities.
With your support, SHARE supports the people with disabilities of CAPRODI, as well as the children of Paso a Paso in San Pedro Sula.
We invite you to join delegations to Honduras as well as consider giving a donation, and to also help us think of any possible foundations, organizations, religious orders/communities who could be approached to help with these efforts; make a check to SHARE and mail it to 2425 College Ave. Berkeley CA 94704 or online at share-elsalvador.org or via Zelle at 510 848 8487
With our gratitude and appreciation
Amy Argenal, Mary Anne Perrone, Jean Stokan, Jose Artiga, and the all the Honduran team.
