Land Transfer Program
e Lower Lempa region were to be given credits to purchase plots of land though the land transfer was clearly laid out in the Peace Accord. It took years and tremendous international pressure to ensure implementation. SHARE accompanied the communities by providing advocacy and technical support. The communities wanted the land to be communal so that individual plots could not be sold off in the future to outside interests. However, the Salvadoran government did not approve that proposal. Many communities are still greatly affected by that decision since the commercial tourism industry has begun to buy up the land in the Lower Lempa region.
