Mary Anne Perrone
Honduras Accompaniment Co-coordinator
Mary Anne is an educator, an activist, and a spiritual guide. All of her adult life she has been an activist for peace and justice. Her particular area of focus for over 30 years has been human rights in Latin America. She has been working in the U.S. to raise consciousness about our country’s role in human rights violations in Latin America and to work for substantive change in our foreign policy.
This work led their young family to live and work in Latin America in the late 1980s (Bolivia) to accompany the poor there in a spirit of liberation as Maryknoll Lay Missioners. In the last two decades, Mary Anne has been part of multiple human rights delegations to several Latin American countries, connecting with and accompanying courageous people working in their own countries to defend those whose human rights are highly threatened. Locally, for decades, she has been part of the Latin America Task Force of the Interfaith Council for Peace & Justice (ICPJ) in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Since 2009, Mary Anne has traveled to Honduras at least 12 times on various human rights delegations, often with SOA Watch. For the past 5 years, she has helped with the coordination of several SHARE Foundation delegations to Honduras beginning with the Emergency Delegation of 2018. Her most recent delegation was in December 2022, and she is part of the planning for September 2023.
