Ruth KalinRuth is SHARE’s ambassador to accompany people with disabilities in achieving independent living in Honduras. Ruth has worked in the field of disability since 1969 in various capacities—with the New York City Board of Education as a teacher and a transition coordinator for visually-impaired students; as a job developer and director of the Business Enterprise Program at the International Center for the Disabled; and as an orientation and mobility instructor at Helen Keller Services for the Blind and The Lighthouse. Ruth met SHARE after volunteering at the border with Catholic Charities in Laredo, Texas, and realizing she needed to learn more about the conditions that were driving this massive migration. One of the nuns with whom she volunteered recommended SHARE, and Ruth took her first trip to El Salvador, immediately becoming a SHARE acolyte. Ruth is beyond delighted to be fulfilling a long-held dream of working with people with disabilities in other countries in partnership with SHARE and CAPRODI.
