Invitation to join the Planting Seeds of Hope Delegation to El Salvador.
Draught, Migration and Caring for Mother Earth.
June 29th to July 8th 2024
Our earth is in crisis. The impacts of climate change are everywhere: floods, fires, and extreme weather events are pummeling the earth. Lives are lost, and communities are destroyed.
In El Salvador, long-term drought has ravaged the land, impacting food production and, by extension, food security across the country. hardest hit is eastern El Salvador, which is part of the Dry Corridor that runs through Central America. Farmers can no longer cultivate their land. They plant their seeds with the first rains only to have the drought kill their corn, beans, and vegetables. After several years of losing their crops, they are compelled to abandon their farms and migrate to the city where they cannot find work. With no alternative ways to support their loved ones, they are compelled to undertake the treacherous journey to the United States. Their survival and the survival of their families are at stake. |
