Socorro Jurídico Humanitario (in English, Humanitarian Legal Assistance) is a Salvadoran social justice and legal justice NGO dedicated to humanitarian assistance and legal   defense -- the need for which became immediately apparent after the Salvadoran Legislative Assembly suspended civil rights in the country in March of 2022, under the so-called "State of Exception".  Originally passed under the guise of a one-month suspension of civil rights, the "State of Exception" has been renewed monthly by the Legislative Assembly.

Since that time, Socorro Jurídico has been publicizing and denouncing cases of human rights violations and illegal detentions committed by police, military, prosecutors, and court personnel.  Illegal detentions, arbitrary executions, and other serious violations against the dignity of people have been verified.  Likewise, there have been violations of due judicial process and serious deficiencies in the actions of state agencies which are tasked with ensuring compliance with the law. Given the urgency of this problem, Socorro Juridico was created to provide free legal and humanitarian assistance to the most vulnerable populations.
